The intervention of requalification and extension planned by Paolo Pettene and Studio SdiA had the objective of creating large areas of water intended for different types of use, guaranteeing both recreational and competitive swimming together with services aimed at rehabilitation, wellness and relax.

The project was made up of adapting the existing olympic swimming pool for international competition, in requalifying the second pool, in the building of a new covered structure to house a polyfunctional pool and in the creation of a new recreational summer pool.

Around the olympic pool a raised pedestrian passage inside a tridimensional grid structure, with a plan dimension of 34 x 58 m and a height of 5 m starting from an elevation of 4.5 m up the ground level, allowing for the passage of the public.

The whole composite structure (made of steel beams with two concrete deck slabs) that support the roof beams in glulam, rests on squared reinforced concrete columns placed in proximity of the corners and in the middle of the longer sides.

SIO carried out the value engineering activity and final design of the composite steel-concrete structures.
